Dear Members,

Firstly, a sincere thank you to those Members that have been sending responses to my emails with your messages of support in these challenging, and simply unprecedented, times. Your support means a lot – we share the messages amongst the team.  Everyday, and another set of announcements take place, we adapt in the best way we can to continue to serve our Members in the best way we can.

To those Members that have paid your subscriptions – thank you.  To those that continue to pay their subscriptions via instalments – thank you.  To those that haven’t yet paid, this is the time when we need you the most. I understand there is great uncertainty with life in general as we know it,  but as a collective, we need your ongoing support – now more than ever before.

The decisions we make, and the decisions you make, will shape the short and long term future of your Club.

We are doing our utmost to communicate to Members in a timely manner to bring you the most accurate up-to-date information we can.  Following the announcements made by the Prime Minister earlier in the week, and yesterday by the Premier of Victoria, the importance of all Australians to stay at home has never been more vital. As a result of these communications, the Board and Management have made the difficult decision to temporarily close the Club, effective immediately, until further notice.  The Premier’s statement “If you can stay home, you must stay home” is a compelling one.

We will be closely watching for further government announcements that are expected within the next 48 hours and will provide another update to members shortly thereafter.

I appreciate your continued patience and understanding as the Board and Management make extremely difficult decisions.  We are also doing our absolute best as a Club to look after our staff who care deeply about the Club and its Members.

Please note that during this temporary period of closure, the main entrance gates will remain permanently closed and Members will not have access to the golf course, tennis courts or the Clubhouse facilities – including Locker Rooms and Club Storage.  If Members wish to collect any personal items that are stored here, they should contact the Club via email to arrange access after today.

A team of staff will maintain course conditioning, our accommodation business and hamper sales. Our Reception is closed and Members are asked not to contact the Club by telephone, and only via email if their matter is urgent. For the foreseeable future your main contact at the Club will be myself on my email address of: manager@easterngolfclub.com.au

The wellbeing of our Eastern family and staff are our highest priority and we will continue to offer our Eastern Hamper Menu for members to order from.  In light of yesterday’s decision, we have updated the procedures regarding ordering, including the introduction of ‘drive through’ collections from the Clubhouse Reception on designated collection days and times.  Members will be contacted when their hamper(s) are ready for collection; and on arrival at the Club’s main entrance should press the buzzer to have the gates opened.

With accommodation currently identified as an essential service Yering Gorge Cottages will continue to operate and welcome guests to stay with us.  We have also developed a long stay ‘home away from home’ accommodation offer for guests who may be looking for an alternate place to stay during these unprecedented times we find ourselves in.

Whilst we are temporarily closed, we are not going away and we plan to stay connected with you – if you’re not following us on Facebook please do as the team are creating some great content that will keep our family together – if there’s something you would like to see, please let us know.  We want to keep you connected with golf, albeit on a slightly different fairway in the short term.

To you, and your family, please stay well and know that our thoughts are with our entire Eastern family – united together we will get through this period of great adversity.

We look forward to saying ‘Welcome Home’ soon and continuing to serve you in the best we can.

With best wishes,

Benjamin Telley – General Manager
